Brief History

Air conditioning was originally used in commercial applications, and were manufactured to produce cool air for industrial processing rather than personal comfort. It was only in the year 1902 that the first modern electrical air conditioning was invented by Willis Haviland Carrier. It was designed to improve manufacturing process control in a printing plant and controlled not only temperature but also humidity. The low heat and humidity facilitated the maintenance of consistent paper dimensions and ink alignment. Years later, Carrier's technology was applied to provide comfort and increase productivity in the workplace, and The Carrier Air Conditioning Company of America was established to meet the rapidly increasing demand. This technology spread all over the world and even came to be used to provide and improve comfort in homes and automobiles, as seen today.
